13th European Space Mechanisms and Tribology Symposium 2009
Vienna, Austria. 23rd-25th September 2009
ESMATS: The European Space Mechanisms and Tribology Symposium
This bi-annual event held on alternate years in collaboration with its sister event in the USA - The Aerospace Mechanisms Symposium - the
European Space Mechanisms and Tribology Symposium, ESMATS, regularly attracts around 200 space mechanism
designers and engineers, space scientists and satellite project and programme managers
from around the world. ESMATS 2007 in Liverpool, England, attracted delegates from most of the countries of Europe, The United States, Japan,
China, India, Brazil, Australia and Canada to name but a few. It will be the first
time in its history since the ESMATS was originally held in Neuchatel, Switzerland in 1983 that this prestigious 3-day symposium will be held in Austria, where it is being hosted in the city of Vienna, organised by Austrian Aerospace.
As with previous years ESTL will be holding their Space Tribology Course (STC) at the same location on the 2 days prior to ESMATS. Delegates will be able to book both events through this web site with a single booking when it opens for registration in March 2009.
Vienna is a city known throughout the world as rich in music, art and culture. As the seat of the Holy Roman
Empire until 1806 and many world famous rulers, Vienna has an international image dominated by magnificent
buildings from the baroque era and the music of Mozart. As a location for the 3-day ESMATS event it has good
air, road and rail links, as well as excellent venues and attractions.
The Symposium will be held in the magnificent Palais Ferstel. Built by the young architect Heinrich von Ferstel between 1856 and 1860, Palais Ferstel is located in the heart of Vienna and once served as the Stock Exchange and the Austrian-Hungarian National Bank. Palais Ferstel has excellent in-house cuisine and offers first class service to all their guests.
Space Tribology Course delegates are encouraged to book early to be sure of a place (Registrations for 2007 STC closed early in 2007 due to being fully booked several weeks prior to the event) and also to assist the organisers in event arrangements.
